Position Description

Fulfills the mission of Norwich University by supervising instruction and course development of the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) track offered through the Norwich University School of Nursing (NUSON) and College of Graduate and Continuing Studies (CGCS). The Specialty Track Coordinator works with other coordinators in the MS in Nursing Program tracks, course developers, clinical placement team, and instructional designers to construct dynamic online courses and nationally focused clinical precept experiences that align with professional nursing accreditation standards, guidelines, practices, competencies and the Norwich University mission and values.

The PMHNP Specialty Track Program Coordinator will: (1) Provide specialty track-level leadership for curriculum planning; (2) Develop and manage faculty and student processes; (3) Teach with the major responsibility to oversee the education of students, (3) Identify course outcomes and evaluation metrics for assessments, and (4) Assist with clinical placement process and clinical practice experience.

Hybrid work schedule may be authorized. Travel to Vermont campus for certain events is expected.

This position is 40 hours/ week, 52 weeks/year 1 FTE position. 

Essential Functions

  1. Conducts the day-to-day operations of the PMHNP Family Nurse Practitioner track.
  2. Supervises Specialty Track faculty and students.
  3. Recruits and supervises adjunct faculty.
  4. Teaches a minimum of one course per term, additional courses may be required.
  5. Recommends Specialty Track course developers.
  6. Oversees Clinical Practice clinical practice experience and assists with clinical placement tasks.
  7. Collaborates with the CGCS program leadership team for seamless integration with the graduate programs.
  8. Collaborates with the MS in Nursing-Program Coordinators in student recruitment and marketing efforts with Norwich staff and external vendors.
  9. Reviews marketing materials.
  10. Leads PMHNP track planning processes.
  11. Evaluates the PMHNP specialty track(s) and student outcomes.
  12. Ensures curriculum is current, relevant, and aligned with PMHNP competencies and accreditation standards.
  13. Monitors and reports on accreditation standards.
  14. Supports the accreditation process for the MS in Nursing program.
  15. Participates in budget development as needed.
  16. Establishes academic and clinical partnerships.
  17. Develops and participates in academic events on campus.
  18. Reviews applications to the PMHNP program tracks.
  19. Supports School of Nursing and CGCS curriculum committees as needed.

  1. Assesses the performance of direct reports and provides frequent feedback to optimize their performance.
  2. Maintains confidentiality of sensitive or private information.
  3. Communicates with employees, students, and others in a respectful and clear manner.
  4. Serves on University committees, councils, workgroups, or other designated bodies as assigned.
  5. Achieves, maintains proficiency in, and utilizes computers, telephones, and other job-related equipment, including related systems and software.
  6. Speaks, reads, and writes in English.
  7. Communicates by telephone, email, letter, in person, or other means or device.
  8. Performs other tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements:

  • Doctor of Nursing Practice degree
  • Active, national board certification as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
  • Unencumbered licensure as a Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse
  • Minimum of 2 years of full-time teaching experience
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a nationally certified Advanced Practice Registered Nurse
  • Experience in APRN program development, curriculum development and program track management preferred
  • Experience with online teaching, instructional technology
  • Knowledge of regulatory and accreditation standards
  • Understanding of test blueprint knowledge for Board certification exams
  • Ability to work and contribute virtually to a team environment
  • Able to sit, squat, reach, push, pull, and manipulate related equipment; lift 15 pounds; travel outdoors to various parts of the campus
  • Work some evening or weekend hours
  • Travel as needed (public or private transportation)
